Preference (Ungkapan yang menyatakan pilihan)

 

Pelajarilah contoh dialog ungkapan untuk menyatakan pilihan, sebagai berikut:

Ade Londok : Which do you prefer, living in a village to living in a city?

                        (Mana yang lebih kamu suka, tinggal di desa atau di kota?)

Mang Oleh   : I prefer living in a village to living in a city. How about you?

                       (Saya lebih suka tinggal di desa daripada di kota.) (Bagaimana dengan kamu?)

Ade Londok : I prefer living in a city to living in a village.

                       (Saya lebih suka tinggal di kota daripada di desa.)

Untuk menyatakan pilihan ada tiga pola kalimat yang digunakan:

 

1. S + prefer + noun + to + noun / S + prefer + V-ing + to + V-ing

    

    Contoh: - Tarso prefers going by bicycle to walking.

                  - She prefers giving examples to blaming the players.

                  - They prefer fried rice to noodles.

                  - Dani prefers the T-shirt to the polo shirt.

                  - We prefer coffee to tea.

2. S + like + noun + more than + noun / S + like + V-ing + more than + V-ing

    Contoh: - He likes criticizing more than guilding the players.

                  - She likes going by train more than going by bus.

                  - I like watching tennis more than playing it.

                  - Udin likes long shot more than short one.

                  - Tuti likes walking more than riding motorcycle.

3. S + would rather + noun + than + noun / S + would rather + V-1 + than V-1

    Contoh: - At night we would rather read a book than go out.

                  - They would rather drink tea than coffee.
