Expressing agreement and disagreement (Ungkapan persetujuan dan ketidaksetujuan)

Baiklah, Hari ini kita akan membahas mengenai ungkapan persetujuan dan ketidaksetujuan. Ungkapan - ungkapan ini seringkali kita gunakan dalam percakapan sehari - hari atas opini atau fakta yang kita setujui maupun yang tidak kita setujui. 
Ungkapan setuju atau biasa dikenal dengan expressing agreement digunakan untuk menyatakan kesetujuan terhadap suatu opini, ajakan, atau fakta. Sebaliknya, jika suatu opini, ajakan, atau fakta ditolak atau tidak disetujui maka tentulah akan memberikan respon berupa ungkapan ketidaksetujuan (Expressing disagreement). 


Contoh Ungkapan persetujuan (agree) dan ketidaksetujuan (disagreement)


Expressing Agreement

I agree. (Saya setuju.)

That's true. (Itu benar.)

You're right. (Kamu benar.)

I approve. (Saya sependapat.)

It's a good idea. (Itu ide yang baik.)

That's fine. (Itu baik.)

Expressing Disagreement

I disagree. (Saya tidak setuju.)

That's not true. (Hal itu tidak benar.)

You are wrong. (Kamu salah.)

I don't approve. (Saya tidak sependapat.)

It's not good idea. (Itu bukan ide yang baik.)

That's not fine. (Itu tidak baik.)

Pada dasarnya ungkapan - ungkapan tersebut diatas mempunyai pengertian yang sama yaitu mengiyakan atau menyetujui suatu pendapat (agreement) dan tidak setuju dengan suatu pendapat (disagreement).

Dialogue 1

Mr. Wahyu : What do you think about using the tractor?

                  (Bagaimana pendapat anda tentang penggunaan traktor itu?)

Mr. Wawan : I agree. It can make our work easier.

                   (Saya setuju. Hal itu dapat membuat pekerjaan kita lebih mudah.)

Percakapan sederhana di atas (dialogue 1) menggambarkan ungkapan persetujuan (agreement) atas ide penggunaan traktor. Hal tersebut ditunjukkan dengan kalimat "I agree". 

Dialogue 2

Ayu : Electrical appliances are very useful.

         (Peralatan elektronik sangat berguna.)

Dadang : Yes, you are right.

              (Ya, kamu benar.)

Ayu : But they are very dangerous in use.

         (Tetapi peralatan elektronik itu sangat berbahaya penggunaannya.)

Dadang : Oh, I wouldn't say that. I disagree with you.

              (Oh, saya tidak akan bilang begitu. Saya tidak setuju dengan pendapatmu.)

Percakapan pada dialog nomor 2 selain mengungkapakan persetujuan juga mengungkapkan ketidaksetujuan. Ungkapan persetujuan ditunjukkan dengan kalimat "yes, you are right" dan ungkapan ketidaksetujuan ditunjukkan dengan kalimat "oh, I wouldn't say that. I disagree with you.

Expressing certainty/uncertainty ( Ungkapan kepastian/ketidakpastian)

     

Ungkapan kepastian diucapkan bila kita merasa yakin benar atas sesuatu peristiwa dan apabila ragu atau belum yakin atas sesuatu atau peristiwa maka kita menggunakan ungkapan ketidakpastian.

Dialogue 2

Siti   : Are you sure you can wash the clothes in few minutes without washing-machine?
         (Apakah kamu yakin dapat mencuci semua pakaian ini hanya beberapa menit tanpa mesin-cuci?)

Euis : I'm not sure that I can wash the clothes in few minutes without washing-machine.
       (Saya tidak yakin saya dapat mencuci semua pakaian ini hanya beberapa menit tanpa mesin-cuci.)

Percakapan pada dialog 2 menunjukkan pengungkapan ketidakpastian.
